Father-Son Chat, Ben Carson at the National Press Club Luncheon

I’ve liked Dr. Carson since before he announced he was running for President, but at first I was worried he was going to be too timid. Have you ever seen someone in the public sphere so soft-spoken? He’s the antithesis of Donald Trump’s bombastic braggadocio.

To my relief, he seems to be striking a really good balance now that he’s got his feet planted under him. If you haven’t seen it yet, watch this clip of Dr. Ben Carson at the National Press Club today.

He adopts such a fatherly tone. You almost imagine all these journalists as little five-year old boys who’ve been naughty and he’s trying to patiently, calmly, lovingly explain to them how to grow up.

“A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

Proverbs 15:1

Unfortunately I think many on the Left are still committed to their wrath and are trying to find ways to hate him for having spoken the truth, gently or not.

Still I thank you, Dr. Ben Carson, for challenging the media in America to rediscover their courage and integrity once again in such a humble and direct manner. We really need the press to be honest with us, to tell the truth, and to not twist and contort things in such a way as to flatter who they favor and destroy the rest.

Remember, journalists, this is our nation. Our future depends on the choices we make now, and the voters need all the facts presented in a fair, even-handed manner, and we don’t need more manipulation. We need to be making informed decisions, and you have the power to help or hinder us in our pursuit of the information we need.

Maybe Dr. Carson gets the Republican nomination and maybe he doesn’t. But ask yourself what sort of nation you want your children and grandchildren to grow up in. Doesn’t an America known for honesty, integrity, authenticity, humility, and courage sound wonderful? Let’s work together to make America into that sort of nation again.
